Also if you get the chance try Smiths Single Malt, its' barley is from South Oz, malted in Coopers brewery and distilled out at Anguston. There is a 10yo due out this year that I haven't found but I've had the 6 yo (brought out early for proof of concept I suppose) got it from Porter's Liquor. It is different from Tasmanian whiskey and I am too young to have ever had a Corio so I don't know what other Oz whiskey tastes like but out of a tasting we had earlier this year with 10 other Singles it came 5th. -

I have not seen that one... I keep looking at the Tassie scotch - it is here in Melbourne but $70-90 depending on which one you buy (same distillery - different age), but I have not felt like spending that on something I am told is ordinary.... What's the Tassie Scotch like ?
Thanks for the like too ! -

Re: I'll Trade you !
Wed, July 25, 2007 - 5:52 AMThe Tassie bottles come in 500ml or smaller so the price tag escalates rapidly. The one's I have tried, distilled in Hobart, 'Lark' I think were pretty innocuous and trying real hard to taste like scotch rather than Australian Whiskey. A mate brought a 'cradle mountain' brand back and it was really quite dreadful, not sure if the bottle was even finished off. The Smith's is young at 7 years old and suffers from lack of age but it has complex flavours, a good nose great colour and you get 700ml for $50-$60. It has not been made for the tourist market, it is not a scotch wannabe. Its sweet with a bit of peat and smoke probably a bit sweeter than your average Irish but still a long way from Rye. One I will certainly buy again coz I like it but I'd love to see the Aussie production expand to genuine whiskey not the tourist lolly water. -

I saw a 700ml at First Choice Liquor in Balwyn Melbourne... Came close to buying it... I think it was called Sullivans Cove ...... I think it was $70 or $80 bucks but I purchased the Highland Park on which I recently reported...
